The Collection

The October 27 Archive currently contains 839 objects and is regularly being expanded with more material. The archive includes flyers and programs from community gatherings held since the October 27 attack, a comprehensive collection of news coverage about the day of the event, oral history recordings reflecting a diverse array of experiences, and historical documentation about the Jewish experience in Western Pennsylvania.

Historical Notes

The Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh was created to mobilize resources to improve the quality of life for Bhutanese immigrants and their families living throughout the region. The organization promotes volunteerism and maintains an emphasis on providing culturally sensitive support to vulnerable families and individuals. BCAP held the South Hills Community Candlelight Vigil on November 2, 2018 to honor the victims, first responders, and families impacted by the attack at Tree of Life synagogue on October 27, 2018. Vigil took place at Wallace and Prospect parks in Whitehall Borough. It included Buddhist, Hindu, and Bible scriptural readings and a candle lighting. Remarks were made by BCAP Executive Director Khara Timsana, Baldwin-Whitehall School District Superintendent Randal A. Lutz, Whitehall Mayor James Nowalk, Josh Sayles of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, and BCAP board president Luv Biswa.
