The Collection

The October 27 Archive currently contains 839 objects and is regularly being expanded with more material. The archive includes flyers and programs from community gatherings held since the October 27 attack, a comprehensive collection of news coverage about the day of the event, oral history recordings reflecting a diverse array of experiences, and historical documentation about the Jewish experience in Western Pennsylvania.

Historical Notes

Several organizations coming together as Pittsburgh's Buddhist Community held a Meditation of Peace and Condolence at the Heinz Memorial Chapel on November 1, 2018 in response to the attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue on October 27, 2018. The gathering was hosted by Laughing Rivers Sangha, Buddhist Meditation Center of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Buddhist Center, Zen Center of Pittsburgh, and Three Rivers Tibetan Cultural Center. Event included meditations by Buddhist monks, a presentation titled "How to Deal With Fear & Sadness" from Rev. Kotoku of the Zen Center of Pittsburgh, and introductory and closing remarks and a song from George Hoguet of Laughing Rivers Sangha.
